Recording at home
My home setup is small and slightly held together with tape, and most of my favourite vocals were recorded there.
My home setup is small and slightly held together with tape, and most of my favourite vocals were recorded there. There is a duvet on a stand for treatment, a microphone on a borrowed boom arm, and a laptop that has lived a hard life.
It should not work as well as it does. The reason it works, I think, is that I am not nervous in my own room. I do not feel the meter running. I can sing a take, walk to the kitchen, come back, and try again without anyone noticing.
A studio gives you better gear. Your kitchen gives you permission to fail. The right answer is usually some mix of both, and on the days the kitchen wins, I do not argue.
